Often you will ask a girl to describe her ideal man and you will be likely to hear something about looks (height, complexion etc) and financial statuses. While these are ok things to look for in a man (after all sometimes the heart wants what it wants) they will not make your marriage work! Househelps, maids, mboch, home manager — whatever you call them — cook, clean every spot in our houses, do the laundry and look after our children. But before you know it, that woman who you sometimes ignore like furniture, or put under the microscope, could soon officially graduate into your children’s stepmother, yes, your co-wife. Lina Omare just could not imagine what attracted her husband to the poor tacky househelp. But the more she thought about it, the more she got confused. And the fact that her husband was willing to marry the househelp troubled her the more. Her husband, Noah is the general manager of one of the country’s leading banks, and Lina the human resource manager of a top insurance company. They had been married for 15 years. He was a respected church elder where they fellowship every Sunday, and the youth looked up to him as a role model. His humility and modest disposition, despite his position, were simply matchless. And his moral uprightness was unquestionable. In a world where all men are often tarred with the same brush with regard to fidelity, Lina often boasted about her husband’s commitment: “Even if I catch him naked in the same room with another woman, I will still doubt if anything really happened between them,” she would tell her friends. So she just could not understand what came over him to have stooped so low to have an affair with their not-so-attractive, and illiterate woman. It was the fear of hiring a house help that could entice her husband that made her decide against engaging Cynthia, the high school dropout who looked a bit more presentable and literate than Irene, now her co-wife. “I don’t not understand why my husband could not tame himself against his own househelp after he had endured some of the most tempting women of his life,” admits Lina. Lina remembers her husband effecting transfers of two of his personal secretaries and requested that he would no longer work with any female secretary because of their seductive tendencies. “The most tempting of all was his nightly encounter with Marion, the sexy public relations executive from the bank’s communications department, who often travelled with him for business meetings,” she narrates. Despite his ability to ward off these kinds of mounting pressures from women, Lina is surprised that her husband, who she thought could never look at another woman twice, could fall for their househelp, when there was practically no temptation. So you can imagine how the budding relationship between her husband and the househelp almost caused her a heart attack! She had never suspected anything until eventually, like nature would have it, the seed her husband and their house girl had sown in a relationship that had lasted about three months in her own house began to manifest — Irene’s two-months pregnancy! What infuriated her the more, Lina’s husband insisted that he was renting a house for Irene and pledged to support his baby and the mother! He could not take the blame for infidelity and instead, Noah blamed Lina for the mess. He told her that the househelp had something that she did not have. Noah said the househelp respected him. She made him feel welcome in his home. But why go in for a maid? What is behind the appeal of seducing an employee, specifically one who works in your home? Are women failing in their role as wives? Men claim that women today are not being wives. Career women, they say, have become so distant and aggressive that they have become a turnoff to men. “She denies you sex, she is moody and does not talk to you. So, you look for pleasure elsewhere,” says Patrick, a father of two. He confesses that he does not remember the last time he kissed his wife, because ‘She is never there’. “She always claims she had a difficult day and she is tired. And what do I do when I have a woman under my roof, whether she is a maid or not?” Agnes Zani, a sociologist from the University of Nairobi says men are emotionally driven beings who want their wives to show them that they are appreciated. She says that what attracts men to women is their femininity. This is the same way women find masculinity attractive in men. Unfortunately, women these days have become so masculine, distant and aggressive that they have become a turn offto men. “Many women use their salary and position at work to transform themselves from the beautiful feminine woman they are into becoming more masculine at home. This could be making feminine and submissive maids at home attractive to men,” she says adding, “the househelp makes their bed, washes his pants and even cooks and serves the husband food. Human beings by nature love a person who is close to them.” Some women are impolite to their husbands and this forces them to look for comfort elsewhere. “This frustrates husbands, who feel women must be submissive to them. The result is that the husband looks for an easy, submissive alternative around them for sex, and in this case, housemaids,” says zani. Magdalene Wangui, a marriage counsellor concurs that domestic workers are becoming so powerful that many marriages and relationships are threatened. She says cases of men sleeping with their helpers are on the rise, and most cases of infidelity she has dealt with has involved a helper. These women, she notes, are often younger, obedient, enlightened, single and struggling with financial issues, and many of the men they sleep with are doing well financially. With money and power comes a sense of entitlement. She adds that men like to use their masculinity to advance their power by picking on weaker people such as maids and young girls. “House girls in the present day are younger, wear stylish clothes, are more educated and because of their age they are vulnerable and available to their male bosses,” she explains. She says by nature power is attractive and maids are at risk because they may also be attracted to the allure of male power. “The power dynamic works both ways because maids are also privy to the private lives of those who pay them. Maids get to see their secrets. So, in a way, the bosses are beholden to the maid. She has power over them.” She warns couples especially wives from involving the maid in their personal conflicts by, for example, complaining to the maid about the wife or the husband. She tells women to get more involved in the house work even if they are not doing the job themselves. The intangibles She also says couples can also just agree to treat the maid as the employee of the wife so that subsequently, even though tasks are carried out by the maid, the instructions and intentions come from the wife, thereby strengthening the couple’s relationship. Susan Catherine Keter, author of the book Marriage takes more than love admits that house girls are a threat to the marriage institution. She agrees that physical appearance and good cooking will attract a man, but will not sustain a marriage in the long term. When the pressures of life catch up, children need to further their education, aging parents get chronically ill and bills soar, the job market becomes hostile and cut-throat; the man will realise that great looks and cooking are not all that he needs, as peace of mind is the number one need. “Marriage is more than sex, good cooking and the dressing code. She says you cannot compare a househelp who just does the house chores and ‘is always there’ to your wife who is working hard sacrificing her time with you to complement your financial contribution in the home,” she says. Set up in 1990, the fund owns around 1 percent of the world's stocks, as well as bonds and real estate from London to Boston, making the Nordic nation an exception when others are struggling under a mountain of debts. A preliminary counter on the website of the central bank, which manages the fund, rose to 5.11 trillion crowns ($828.66 billion), fractionally more than a million times Norway's most recent official population estimate of 5,096,300. It was the first time it reached the equivalent of a million crowns each, central bank spokesman Thomas Sevang said. Not that Norwegians will be able to access or spend the money, stacked away for a rainy day for them and future generations. Norway has resisted the temptation to splurge all the windfall since striking oil in the North Sea in 1969. Finance Minister Siv Jensen told Reuters the fund, called the Government Pension Fund Global, had helped iron out big, unpredictable swings in oil and gas prices. Norway is the world's number seven oil exporter. "Many countries have found that temporary large revenues from natural resource exploitation produce relatively short-lived booms that are followed by difficult adjustments," she said in an email. The fund, equivalent to 183 percent of 2013 gross domestic product, is expected to peak at 220 percent around 2030. "The fund is a success in the sense that parliament has managed to put aside money for the future. There are many examples of countries that have mot managed that," said Oeystein Doerum, chief economist at DNB Markets. Norway has sought to avoid the boom and bust cycle by investing the cash abroad, rather than at home. Governments can spend 4 percent of the fund in Norway each year, slightly more than the annual return on investment. A study from the University of Oxford revealed that women with bigger butts have distinct advantages over women who have flat rears, and not just the ability to fill out a pair of jeans. Those with inflated derrières have lower insulin resistance, and they produce hormones that better metabolize sugar — which means these women are less likely to develop heart problems or diabetes than women who carry extra weight around their stomachs. These women also tend to have lower cholesterol; and they tend be smarter, because they produce more Omega 3 fats, which mobilizes brain development.
Researchers indicate that fat in the lower body is preferred to fat anywhere else throughout the body. Dr. Michael Jensen, director of endocrine research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. stated that the fat of pear-shaped women behaves in healthy ways, and that the public should think about fat “as an important organ for our health.”
“It is the protective role of lower body, that is [thigh and backside] fat, that is striking. The protective properties of the lower body fat depot have been confirmed in many studies conducted in subjects with a wide range of age, BMI and co-morbidities,” ABC News said, quoting the Journal of Obesity.
Dr. Robert Kushners, medical specialist in obesity at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, clarified that fat in the stomach is “more metabolically active,” therefore harmful, while fat in the lower regions may be more stable.

Prophet David Owuor and Bishop Dr Margaret Wanjiru are embroiled in an ugly fight over claims of prosperity gospel and ‘fake miracles’among themselves The two servants of God have been lashing at each other always questioning the credibility of the other’s miracles, qualifications and dedication to serve the almighty God Prophet Owuor has over the past few months been castigating ‘false prophets’ whom he claims their sole aim was “to milk money from the congregation”. But he was more than blunt recently, when in front of huge crowds in Kakamega and on live TV, termed Bishop Wanjiru “a false prophet”. He further mocked the Jesus is Alive Ministries founder, saying: “She claims the glory is here yet she can’t even perform one miracle,” to a thunderous crowd. Days after Prophet Owuor attacked her on live TV, Bishop Wanjiru promptly responded. In an interview with The Nairobian, Bishop Wanjiru dismissed Prophet Owuor as “an idler who has so much time in his hands and nothing to do with it”. She further questioned Prophet Owuor’s famous claim that he never accepts sadaka from his congregation. “Can he explain the fleet of expensive cars he drives around in? Can he explain the lavish lifestyle he is accustomed to? I would want to know which spiritual world he gets those things from so that I can also go and get them for myself,” said an angry Bishop Wanjiru. She further claimed Prophet Owuor’s miracles were highly questionable. “Can someone explain to me how someone in crutches will walk just for the duration of Owuor’s rally and the next day they are back to using crutches? He just gives people energizers and claims he is performing miracles,” claimed Bishop Wanjiru, terming Prophet Owuor a “one-day miracle man”. Wanjiru further said she had issues with Owuor calling himself a prophet. “Who anointed him as a prophet? We are all servants of God. We serve the same God. In fact, Owuor’s academic papers are very questionable,” she said. Bishop Wanjiru says her church members who were “very bitter” informed her of Owuor’s hostility towards her. “I ignored him (for days after the Kakamega crusade) as I have always done but I think this time, I needed to respond,” says Bishop Wanjiru. Bishop Wanjiru attributes Prophet Owuor’s hostility towards her to jealousy. “He is idle, and he has spent a lot of time trying to fight me, but I let God fight my battles. I ignore him and I think it hurts him. He wants to be noticed. And he can achieve that by attacking me. I remain steadfast in my commitment to serve God and I won’t let Owuor distract me,” says Bishop Wanjiru. When reached for comment, Prophet Owuor’s handlers declined to comment. However, the head of the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness has in the past said he does not engage in “prosperity gospel”. He once said: “In some towns like Mombasa, prostitutes go to pastors to pray for them so that they can get clients, and they promise to give tithes from the proceeds of their activities. God is angry over witchcraft in the church. Some church leaders mix God with witchcraft.” The prophet has maintained that the church in Kenya has lost its moral authority. There has been speculation about his nationality, but he insists he is a Kenyan from Siaya. He refuses to talk about his trademark unkempt beard. He said in an interview on October 19, 2004, that he was shown the state of the church in Kenya and had to preach to the clergy across the country to repent. “The pastors and bishops were and still are preaching the gospel of prosperity,” he said. “They engage in material gospel and this leads to sexual sin and some even abandon their call and join politics. I am an example. We do not collect offering during our meetings but God provides. If I were to collect offerings, I would become a millionaire instantly but that is not what I was called for.” Bishop Wanjiru has had her fair share of negative publicity. In a previous interview, Wanjiru confessed to have dabbled in witchcraft before she got saved. Kamangu Ndimu put a damper on Wanjiru’s plans and the wedding was called off. She had revealed in interviews that she was a mother of children whose father’s whereabouts she did not know — in fact, she was not sure whether he was alive or dead. Wanjiru confessed of loneliness and said she would unveil a man she plans to tie the knot with and live happily thereafter Her plans to marry the South African preacher, Samuel Matjeke, however failed. The reconciliation saga between Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Nairobi Women’s Representative Rachael Shebesh has become a high stakes tussle in which a figure of up to Sh100 million is said to be at the centre of negotiations, The People has learnt. With the two hitting a stalemate yesterday, which could lead to prosecution of Kidero with possible devastating consequences for his position, the tussle is said to have drawn in some powerful government offiacials who are understood to have sent Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ to try to reconcile the two in the interim period before prosecution can begin. “I have personally been sent to initiate dialogue between the two leaders,” Sonko told The People last night, as he confirmed that reconciliation between the two may have been stalled by brokers working behind the scenes on both sides. Sonko said the officials who had sent him had “expressly” directed him to reconcile the two leaders for the sake of development in the County, noting that he, Kidero and Shebesh hold the key to the city’s administrative and political management, which are some of Jubilee’s key success indicators. “If Kidero and Shebesh are knocked off their seats by this case, Nairobi would be back to the drawing boards to pick new leadership,” said another city MP. Sources said the figure of Sh100 million had been mentioned in the negotiations, which could also be another drawback to reaching a settlement. Sonko warned intermediaries, whom he said include some MPs, to keep off the matter “in order to give us time to broker a deal. At the moment, we are progressing well with talks and we hope to reach a solution within a few days”. However, we could not independently verify Sonko’s claim of being dispatched as a peacemaker between Kidero and Shebesh. This unfolded as Kidero managed to secure a three-day temporary order stopping the police from prosecuting him for allegedly assaulting Shebesh at City Hall four months ago. High Court Judge Weldon Korir granted Kidero the reprieve shortly after Justice Isaac Lenaola vacated the sanctions he had slapped on the police on January 3, to give the Governor and Shebesh a chance to reconcile following their sensational physical confrontation last September 6. Prof. Tom Ojienda, for Kidero, explained there was real apprehension the Governor was likely to be charged at any time and it was in the interest of justice to suspend any prejudicial action against him before all avenues to safeguard his interests had been exhausted. According to the Criminal Procedure Code (CDC), assault is treated as a serious “misdemeanour” and carries a penalty of between six and one month conviction, in some cases with a fine. Should the case against Kidero therefore proceed and if he is convicted, he would be forced to quit the high profile office of Nairobi Governor. On the other hand, Shebesh can easily walk out of the court a free person with a “simple bond to keep the peace” if the case against her proceeds since it is treated as a minor offence under the CPC to cause disturbance. In the court, Justice Korir directed Ojienda to provide lawyer Cecil Miller, for Shebesh, with the fresh application to facilitate an urgent hearing between the warring parties on Thursday to assist the court decide whether to extend the conservatory orders. Senator James Orengo said the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), on whose ticket Kidero was elected, wanted to participate in the petition. Lawyer Evans Monari said the Nairobi County Government would seek permission to be included as an interested party. Justice Lenaola set aside the orders he had slapped against the Inspector-General of Police, David Kimaiyo, and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, from prosecuting Kidero and Shebesh after they separately confirmed they were unable to reach an out-of-court settlement. Reconciliation was a two-way process and if one party was not willing to engage the other, then any court orders were in vain, he said. Miller said he had personally arranged for a meeting and made proposals on the terms of reconciliation last Friday, but his entreaties were rebuffed. It was apparent that the reluctance and lack of response from the Governor meant no tangible negotiations could be attempted, he said. Miller said Shebesh had no problem at all being charged with creating a disturbance since her protagonists had not demonstrated any genuine seriousness in resolving the dispute. But, Prof. Ojienda accused Shebesh of undermining the spirit of reconciliation and asked for seven days to explore an amicable solution. The Deputy DPP, Kioko Kamula, said he was not aware of any negotiations between the parties, but urged the court to desist from giving the DPP any ultimatum regarding the proposed prosecutions, in which Kidero and Shebesh are individual complainants and accused persons. Monari had offered to mediate in the stand-off between the two politicians. In his brief ruling, Justice Lenaola recalled he had only allowed the parties to fix their problems after Ruaraka voter, Alex Nchore Ochako, hinted they were willing to settle their differences through round-table negotiations. Article 159 (2) (1) of the Constitution allows reconciliation, mediation, arbitration and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms. Under Section 176 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC), the court is granted the power to encourage reconciliation between parties in cases of common assault or for any other offence of a personal or private nature, he said. However, Justice Lenaola had dismissed Nchore’s assertion that the intended prosecution against Kidero was politically motivated and meant to humiliate and bring him down. “The whole application, with respect, is full of generalities, politically-correct, but legally untenable arguments and is speculative and premature,” he said. Thousands of Israelis on Sunday filed past the coffin of Ariel Sharon, paying respect to a former prime minister whose controversial life inspired admiration and provoked revulsion in equal measure.

Celebrated as a military hero at home, recognised as a pragmatic politician abroad and despised as a bloodthirsty criminal by the Palestinians and the Arab world, Sharon was nothing if not a polarising figure.
But Israelis of all stripes acknowledged the burly 85-year-old as a key figure in their nation's history, his death on Saturday leaving President Shimon Peres as the Jewish state's last surviving founding father.
The white-haired former general had been in coma since January 4, 2006, following a massive stroke which felled him at the height of his political career.
Ahead of his funeral on Monday, Sharon's flag-draped coffin was placed on a black marble plinth in the plaza outside the Knesset, or parliament, for the public to pay their last respects.
A spokesman for the assembly told AFP up to 20,000 people had filed past the coffin, which was flanked by an honour guard, when the plaza was closed to the public after seven hours.
Among the visitors were people of all ages, soldiers and black-clad ultra-Orthodox Jews rubbing shoulders with families.
Earlier, ministers held a minute's silence in memory of Israel's 11th prime minister as they met for their weekly cabinet meeting.
"He will be remembered in the heart of the Jewish people forever as one of our most outstanding leaders and most daring commanders," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told them.
Funeral at ranch near Gaza
Sharon will be buried on Monday afternoon at Sycamore Ranch, his home in the southern Negev desert, after a military funeral
A procession from the Knesset to the ranch will stop pause for a ceremony at a military memorial site in Latrun, west of Jerusalem, where Sharon was wounded in the 1948 war of independence.
With thousands of people expected to attend the funeral, police were preparing to deploy extra units to secure the area, which lies just a few kilometres (miles) from the northern border with Gaza.
Channel 2 television said the army had changed the deployment of the Iron Dome aerial defence system batteries in the area to defend against possible rocket attacks from Gaza. A military spokeswoman refused to comment.
World leaders sent condolences over Sharon's death, remembering the divisive figure in cautious diplomatic language. Vice President Joe Biden is expected to represent Washington at a special memorial at the Knesset on Monday morning.
Others expected to attend are German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, outgoing Czech Prime Minister Jiri Rusnok and Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair as well as diplomats from Canada, Spain and Russia.
Sharon's dramatic story was the subject of blanket media coverage on Sunday, with Israeli newspapers dedicating multiple pages to pictures and commentary on his life and legacy.
Once known chiefly as a ruthless military leader who fought in all of Israel's major wars, Sharon switched to politics in 1973, championing the development of Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He was long considered a pariah for his personal but "indirect" responsibility in the 1982 massacre of hundreds of Palestinians by Israel's Lebanese Phalangist allies in Beirut's Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.
His early career as a warrior earned him the moniker "The Bulldozer" but most world leaders chose to remember the politician who surprised many by masterminding Israel's pullout from Gaza in 2005.
The Palestinians were quick to welcome news of his death, which prompted an outburst of celebration in the Gaza Strip, where the ruling Islamist Hamas movement said it was a "historic moment" marking the "disappearance of a criminal whose hands were covered with Palestinian blood".
One of the last members of the generation that founded the Jewish state in 1948, Sharon leaves a complex legacy which also includes the sprawling barrier separating Israel from the West Bank.
His policy of separation from the Palestinians culminated in the withdrawal of 8,000 settlers from Gaza, a bold move that earned him the hatred of his former nationalist and settler allies.

Reuters reported that Human rights lawyers and campaigners have asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate allegations of torture by British troops in Iraq, a move which the UK government dismissed as unnecessary on Sunday.
A Berlin-based human rights group and a British law firm have submitted what they describe as 250 pages of analysis to the ICC's Office of the Prosecutor requesting action on alleged abuses between 2003 and 2008.
The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) and Public Interest Lawyers (PIL) said in a press release posted on the ECCHR website that there had been "systemic abuse" of Iraqi detainees during the British presence in Iraq which met the threshold of war crimes.

An ICC spokeswoman declined immediate comment on the submission.
The ICC, which receives dozens of submissions every year and takes very few of them further, can only act where national jurisdictions are unable or unwilling to investigate alleged crimes.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain's willingness to investigate the allegations meant action by the ICC was unnecessary.
"The British armed forces uphold high standards ... so we reject any allegations of systematic abuse. But where there are substantiated allegations of things going wrong these things have been or are being investigated," Hague told Sky News.
"That does not require references to the International Criminal Court ... This is being dealt with properly within the United Kingdom through a very detailed and exhaustive process."
PUBLIC INQUIRIES
The ECCHR and PIL said more than 400 Iraqi former detainees had made allegations of grave mistreatment, of which 85 had been chosen as "representative cases" in the submission to the ICC.
The two organizations said they wanted the ICC to open formal investigations into senior figures at the Ministry of Defence who "knew or should have known of the widespread patterns of abuse, and turned a blind eye to them", and named former Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon.
Hoon could not be immediately reached for comment.
The ministry said alleged abuses had been or were being investigated through the British and European law courts, through public inquiries, in parliament and through a dedicated publicly funded body called the Iraq Historic Allegations Team.
"Should we be approached by the ICC, we will take the opportunity to explain the very extensive work underway to deal with historic allegations of abuse," the ministry said in a statement.
PIL has played a key role in a number of court cases involving alleged British abuses in Iraq.
It has also been instrumental in bringing about several major public inquiries, including the ongoing Al-Sweady inquiry into allegations that British troops executed and tortured Iraqis in the aftermath of a battle in May 2004. That inquiry is due to present its findings at the end of the year.

Apple Inc does not use patented technology owned by Google Inc unit Motorola Mobility in making its iPhones, an appeals court said on Friday.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a decision by the International Trade Commission in April that Apple did not violate a Google patent to make the popular iPhone.
The smartphone industry has seen dozens of lawsuits on several continents as Apple vies for market share with companies that make smartphones using Google's Android software.
"We're disappointed in this decision and are evaluating our options," Google unit Motorola said in a statement. Apple had no comment on the decision.
Motorola Mobility accused Apple in 2010 of infringing on six of its patents covering technology such as reducing signal noise and programming the device's touch screen so a user's head does not accidentally activate it while talking on the phone. The ITC ruled in April 2013 that Apple did not violate any of the six. The appeals court addressed just one of the six patents.
Google acquired the patents in the case - and the lawsuit - when it purchased Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in 2012, partly for its library of telecommunications patents.
Google's Android software, which the company lets handset makers use for free, has become the world's No. 1 smartphone operating system, ahead of the iOS software used on Apple iPhones.
The ITC, a U.S. trade panel that investigates patent infringement involving imported goods, is a popular venue for patent lawsuits because it can bar the importation of infringing products and because it issues decisions relatively quickly.
The case at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit is Motorola Mobility LLC v. International Trade Commission and Apple, Inc.
